Empowering Chicago’s Youth Through Hoops: Court Renovation at Langford Academy
In the heart of Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, a once-worn basketball court at Anna R. Langford Community Academy has been transformed into a vibrant, playable, and inspiring space. This transformation was made possible through a collaborative effort between Goalrilla Basketball, Project Backboard, and the WNBA’s Chicago Sky.
As part of the full court renovation led by Project Backboard, Goalrilla donated two FT72 basketball hoops. These adjustable, pro-level systems deliver top-tier performance and quality, creating a space that now encourages more youth to get on the court and into the game.

A Court Revived, A Community Celebrated
Langford Academy’s outdoor court, located at 6010 S. Throop Street in Chicago, had long been in need of repair. Uneven pavement and aging equipment made it difficult for students and neighborhood youth to safely enjoy the space. This summer, that changed dramatically.
Project Backboard, an organization known for blending art and sport in underserved communities, resurfaced and repainted the court with a bold, custom design. To complete the upgrade, Goalrilla’s FT72 hoops were installed. These heavy-duty, adjustable systems are built for serious play and long-term use, making them ideal for both students and community members.
Following the renovation, the school hosted a community day to officially unveil the new court. Students, families, and residents gathered to celebrate and test out the space with help from special guests, including staff and players from the Chicago Sky and WNBA star and NCAA champion Kamilla Cardoso.

Real Impact, Right Where It's Needed
This project represents much more than a physical renovation. It is about creating safe, welcoming, and active public spaces in neighborhoods that often lack investment. In communities like Englewood, where youth engagement opportunities can be scarce, accessible courts like this one play a crucial role.
Through this partnership with Project Backboard, Goalrilla continues its mission to do more than build basketball hoops. We help build access, confidence, and community through sport. Our work in Chicago adds to a growing list of revitalized spaces across the country — from San Francisco to Evansville — where our equipment is helping to reimagine what’s possible in public basketball spaces.

We are proud to support efforts that bring joy, energy, and purpose to communities. We stand alongside organizations like Project Backboard and the Chicago Sky, who share our belief in the power of basketball to inspire, connect, and empower.
